Domestic Violence and Family Services

Domestic Violence and Family Services

The Domestic Violence Department is located on the Absentee Shawnee Tribal complex in Shawnee, OK. We provide confidential services to Native and Non-Native victims/survivors of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Stalking, and Dating Violence within Pottawatomie, Cleveland, and Oklahoma Counties, and Absentee Shawnee Tribal Members across the nation. Our advocates can meet at a safe, public location if necessary. We also collaborate with the Pottawatomie County Family Justice Center, One Safe Place and have meeting space available. If you would like to meet at that location, please let the advocate know when you speak with them.

In 1978, Congress passed the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), 25 USC 1901 et seq., which provides a legal basis for protection and services for Indian families and children. The ICWA establishes provisions for the placement of such children.
