Please join us for a Kumeyaay basket weaving workshop with several expert Kumeyaay basket weavers from San Jose de la Zorra, Baja, CA, who will give a demonstration of this traditional art, and also talk about their methods (with the assistance of a bilingual interpreter). They will discuss the various forms of baskets, the symbols incorporated and their meanings, how they dye the various plants used, where they find them, and the issues that arise today for basket weavers in gathering the necessary plant materials. The event will also feature a presentation by California basket weaver, Willie Pink (Pala).
