The World Eskimo-Indian Olympics

The World Eskimo-Indian Date: Wednesday July 17, 2019 through Saturday July 20, 2019.

With games like the seal hop, four man carry, ear pull, one-foot high kick and seal skinning, the World Eskimo-Indian Olympics (WEIO) are sure to be unlike any other athletic competition you’ve ever seen. All the games in this competition are variations of traditional exercises practiced to hone the physical and mental skills necessary for the traditional livelihoods of Native Alaskan people.

The event also features native dance groups, more than 80 tables of vendors of native arts and exhibits, traditional regalia contests, and the Miss World Eskimo Indian Olympics pageant.

Cherokee Nation is a sponsor for the Tulsa Drillers vs. Midland Rockhounds game at Drillers Stadium, located at 201 N. Elgin in Tulsa. Cherokee Nation Deputy Chief S. Joe Crittenden will throw out the first pitch and Tribal Councilor Canaan Duncan will lead the crowd in singing Take Me Out to the Ballgame during the seventh inning stretch. Various Cherokee Nation departments will also be on-hand with information booths at the game.
